Jon Burgess and Chris Macey step down as Senior Coaches

Following the conclusion on the 2022/23 season Caerleon RFC can confirm that Head Coach Jon Burgess and Defence Coach Chris Macey have both stepped down from their roles at the Club.

Jon and Chris took the first team coaching reigns in the summer of 2019 along with Adam Brake, Angus O’Brien and Harri Keddie. Their tenure at The Broadway got off to an excellent start before the Covid-pandemic halted rugby, and indeed our everyday lives in 2020.

When rugby restarted in time for the 2021/22 season the landscape of the game at community level had changed massively and not necessarily for the better. Jon and Chris’ efforts to try and galvanise the team post-covid was no mean feat but one they managed admirably.

The season that’s just finished was a tough one on the field for Caerleon RFC, injuries and unavailability has made team selection a huge task on a weekly basis but the pair’s enthusiasm and commitment never wavered.

After four years Jon and Chris have decided to relinquish their coaching roles and Caerleon RFC would like to both thank them for their efforts and wish them all the best for the future.

We’d also like to thank Adam Brake, Angus O’Brien and Harri Keddie who, amongst their playing and work commitments have also given their time coaching the First XV over the last four years.
